Wrong or Damaged Online Order in Bangladesh? What to Do First
A wrong or damaged parcel needs a quick, documented response. Learn what to photograph, how to report it and which order records to keep.

If a parcel arrives with the wrong item, missing pieces or visible damage, act while the order details and packaging are still available. A calm, documented report gives the seller the information needed to review the problem and helps you show what arrived. The exact return deadline and remedy depend on the merchant and product, so use the order page’s instructions as soon as you notice an issue.
The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics’ 2024–25 ICT survey reporting identified receiving goods or services that did not match the order among the most commonly reported online-shopping problems. The Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha summary says 50.7% of respondents who reported online-shopping problems cited this issue; poor quality and delayed delivery were also reported. These are survey findings about reported problems, not the odds that any individual order will go wrong.
First, document what arrived
If you can, photograph the unopened parcel, shipping label and visible damage before removing packaging. Then record the item, serial number, colour, size, quantity and accessories. If the problem only becomes clear after opening, take a continuous unboxing video where possible and keep the packaging. Do not discard labels, protective materials or small parts while the seller is reviewing the case.
Do not use, install, wash, assemble or repair the item before contacting the seller unless the merchant’s claim process asks for a specific check. Using or altering it may make it harder to establish its delivered condition or may affect return eligibility.
| Situation | Evidence to save | What to report clearly |
|---|---|---|
| Wrong item or variant | Product page, parcel label, item label and order confirmation | What you ordered and what arrived, including model/size/colour |
| Visible damage | Photos of outer packaging, inner packaging and damaged area | Whether the parcel was already damaged at handover and which parts are affected |
| Missing accessory or quantity | Listing contents, box contents and invoice | Exact missing part, quantity or bundle item |
| Defective on arrival | Short video or photos showing the issue; serial/model details | What you tried, when the fault appeared and whether the item was used |
| Different quality or material | Listing description, label and clear photos | The specific claim that does not match the delivered product |
Report it through the official order channel
Open the order in the merchant’s app or website and start the return, replacement or complaint flow. State the order ID, delivery date, problem and requested resolution. Attach clear evidence and save the ticket number or confirmation message. If you bought directly from a social-media seller, contact the account you ordered from and the payment provider only through their official channels; keep screenshots of the product listing and conversation.
Do not rely only on a phone conversation. If support calls you, note the date, agent name if provided, summary and next step, then ask for written confirmation through the order page, email or official messaging channel.
Policies are specific. Othoba’s published policy instructs customers to return a package to the delivery agent immediately when an item is missing, damaged or wrong. Daraz lists damaged, defective, incorrect and incomplete items as return-policy categories, with deadlines and conditions described on its current policy page. These examples show why you should read your own seller’s procedure rather than assume every courier can take a parcel back at the door.
If you have not accepted or paid yet
Ask the courier what the order process allows before opening or refusing a parcel. Some delivery arrangements allow only an outer-package check; some do not allow opening before payment. If the outer package is visibly crushed, wet, resealed or inconsistent with the order, photograph it and contact the merchant immediately. A courier’s verbal assurance is not a replacement for the seller’s return procedure.
For a prepaid order, do not hand over a one-time password or pay an additional amount through an unofficial link to “release” a refund. Refund instructions should appear in the merchant’s official order or support channel.
AjkerOffer Value Check: keep a simple order record
For higher-value electronics, furniture and fragile goods, save a screenshot of the exact product listing, seller identity, included items and delivery promise before ordering. Keep the invoice, payment receipt and parcel label after delivery. This small record also helps when a platform needs to distinguish a seller claim from a platform-level issue.
Browse merchant information through AjkerOffer’s Stores directory and check the Deals page for current listings. A low price is only useful if the seller explains how it handles a wrong or damaged product.
When to escalate a consumer complaint
If the merchant does not resolve the issue, keep the timeline and evidence together. DNCRP publishes an online consumer-complaint portal and says complaints under the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009 must be filed within 30 days of the cause arising. Its current website lists hotline 16121. Check the authority’s instructions and required documents before filing; the official procedure says to attach proof of purchase.
Frequently asked questions
Should I keep the packaging after delivery?
Yes, until you have checked the order and know there is no issue. Packaging and labels can help identify the parcel and may be required for a return.
Can I return a wrong item to the courier immediately?
Only if the merchant’s process permits it or the seller confirms it through an official channel. Procedures differ, so do not assume the courier can approve a return or refund.
What should I do if an accessory is missing?
Photograph the contents and compare them with the product listing and invoice. Report the exact missing item through the order page promptly.
What if the seller does not answer?
Keep your complaint number, screenshots, receipt and messages. Follow the platform’s escalation path and consult DNCRP’s current complaint process if needed.
