An order marked “processing” for days can be frustrating, especially when you bought it for a specific date. First check whether the seller promised a dispatch estimate or a delivery window: those are not always the same. Then use the order page and tracking reference to find where the delay occurred before deciding whether to wait, contact support or cancel.

The BBS 2024–25 ICT survey summary reported delayed delivery among the problems raised by online shoppers. In the BSS report, 19.3% of respondents who reported online-shopping problems cited delay. The figure is not a forecast for an individual package, but it shows why buyers should save the promised date and understand the seller’s escalation route.

Check the order status before contacting support

Open the order confirmation and note the order date, promised delivery window, seller, fulfilment status and tracking number. A status such as “confirmed,” “packed,” “handed to courier” or “out for delivery” points to a different stage. If there is no tracking number yet, the order may not have been dispatched.

Check the tracking link from the merchant’s own app or website. If the tracking page is unfamiliar, avoid entering payment details or account credentials. Some merchants use a logistics partner, but the order page should identify the tracking reference or provide a secure link.

Status or issue First check Next action
Order confirmed but not shipped Processing estimate and stock message Ask whether the seller has stock and when dispatch is expected
Tracking number created, no scan Handover date and courier’s first scan Contact the merchant to confirm physical handover
Shipment moving between hubs Latest scan, destination and service area Check again after the stated transit interval; save the latest status
No update beyond promised date Delivery estimate and any exception notice Open a written support ticket with order ID and tracking number
Failed delivery attempt Phone number, address, availability and courier note Contact the official support channel to arrange the next step
Date-sensitive purchase Event or travel date versus the revised estimate Ask about cancellation/refund options before relying on the item

Contact the merchant with a useful message

Send a concise note containing the order number, item, delivery address area, tracking number, original estimate and the latest status. Ask a clear question: “Has the parcel been physically handed to the courier, and what is the revised delivery date for this address?” Save the response and ticket ID.

If the purchase is urgent, explain the date and ask whether cancellation is still possible. A marketplace’s dispatch estimate may not be a guaranteed arrival date. Daraz’s terms, for example, describe dispatch estimates as estimates and say availability or processing issues may affect orders. That rule is specific to Daraz; read the terms for your merchant.

When waiting is reasonable—and when it is not

A short gap between courier scans can happen during transit, but repeated missed dates without a useful update deserve a written follow-up. Consider the item’s value, whether it is time-sensitive, the seller’s revised estimate and your cancellation/refund options. Do not place a duplicate order automatically if the first one may still arrive; first ask whether it can be stopped or cancelled.

For prepaid orders, check the merchant’s cancellation and refund policy before taking action. Refund processing can depend on payment method and when the seller receives a returned parcel. For COD, confirm whether cancelling after dispatch could create a fee or account restriction under the merchant’s terms.

AjkerOffer Value Check: delivery promise is part of the price

When comparing two offers, include delivery timing and the cost of a missed date. A slightly cheaper item may not be better value if its delivery window does not fit your need. On AjkerOffer, explore the Deals and Stores sections, then verify the current delivery estimate at the merchant’s checkout for your address.

If the parcel stays delayed or goes missing

Ask the merchant to open a courier investigation and state how long that review usually takes. Keep the order confirmation, payment receipt, tracking screenshots, support messages and revised delivery promises. If the seller does not resolve a paid order, consult the current DNCRP complaint process and retain proof of purchase. The agency’s website lists complaint information and hotline 16121.

Frequently asked questions

What does “shipment information received” mean?

It often means a tracking record has been created, but it may not prove that the courier has physically received the parcel. Ask the merchant to confirm handover if no scan appears.

Can I cancel an online order after it is delayed?

That depends on the merchant’s policy and shipment stage. Check the official order page and request cancellation in writing before arranging another purchase.

Should I contact the courier or the seller first?

Start with the seller or platform because it holds the order record and can contact the logistics partner. Use the courier’s official tracking channel as a second check.

What evidence should I save?

Keep the order confirmation, promised date, tracking history, payment receipt and support ticket. These help establish when you ordered and what delivery timeline was given.
