Is That Online Sale Price Really a Deal? A Bangladesh Buyer’s Price Check
Use a simple SKU, price-history and delivered-cost check to tell a meaningful online discount in Bangladesh from a crossed-out price that does not fit your budget.

Is That Online Sale Price Really a Deal? A Bangladesh Buyer’s Price Check
A crossed-out price is only useful if it is a fair comparison for the exact product you want. A 40% badge can look impressive while a different model, smaller pack, seller fee or delivery charge changes the real cost. In Bangladesh, where a promotion may also depend on a specific wallet, bank card, app or delivery area, the safest comparison is the amount due for the same item at checkout.
This is a practical desk-research method, not a claim that we tracked every retailer’s past prices. The goal is to help you decide whether the current offer deserves a closer look.
Step 1: Match the exact product
Write down the model number, size, colour, pack count, storage, warranty type or other variant that matters. Compare that exact variant across listings. Similar product names can hide a different generation, capacity, bundle, imported version or seller warranty. For groceries and personal care, compare both the product and quantity: ৳500 for 1 kg is not the same unit value as ৳320 for 500 g.
For a device, check the manufacturer’s product page for the model identifier and included items. For everyday goods, note pack size, expiry information where relevant, and whether the advertised price is per item or per bundle. If a retailer’s listing is vague, do not treat it as an exact price match.
Step 2: Ask what the reference price means
“Regular,” “list,” “MRP” or crossed-out prices are not necessarily an independent record of what shoppers paid last week. Look for a dated price history if one is available, compare the current same-model price across credible sellers, and save a screenshot of the offer. A single screenshot is useful as a record, but it does not establish a long-term trend.
Some retailers explain that comparison prices are estimates. Chaldal’s terms of use, for example, describe certain list or suggested prices as comparative estimates and note that prices and stock can change. That is a reminder to focus on the live price for the exact product, not an old anchor number.
Step 3: Calculate the delivered checkout price
Use this calculation:
Delivered cost = item price − instant discounts + delivery + service/payment charges
Then subtract cashback only if you are eligible and value its delayed form appropriately. Do not subtract a conditional cashback as if it were guaranteed cash in hand.
| Compare | What you need to match | Common trap |
|---|---|---|
| Product | Exact model/variant or weight | Similar photo, different item |
| Seller | Official shop, named marketplace seller or specialist retailer | Same platform, different seller conditions |
| Promotion | Coupon code, cap, minimum spend and payment method | Headline discount only applies to selected stock |
| Delivery | Your district/postcode, speed, free-delivery threshold | “Free” delivery excludes the chosen location |
| Return/warranty | Who handles it and for how long | Cheapest listing has weaker after-sale support |
| Payment | COD, wallet, card, EMI and any fee | Payment discount requires an ineligible card |
AjkerOffer’s Deals page can help you discover listed offers, while the Electronics category and store directory help you compare where an item may be listed. Treat availability and offer text as time-sensitive and confirm them on the merchant page.
Step 4: Check the discount math
For a percentage discount, multiply the eligible price by the percentage, then apply the cap. If a ৳10,000 item has 10% off capped at ৳500, the discount is ৳500, not ৳1,000. If a bank discount needs a minimum spend of ৳8,000, adding unwanted products can turn the advertised saving into extra spending.
Example: Seller A lists the exact item at ৳9,600 plus ৳100 delivery. Seller B lists it at ৳10,000 with ৳500 off after a required payment method and free delivery. Seller B’s checkout total is ৳9,500, which is ৳200 lower than A—but only if your account/card qualifies and no other charge appears. If you do not qualify, Seller A is cheaper by ৳300. Write down both totals for your own payment method.
Step 5: Weigh support against the difference
The lowest total is not automatically best for every item. Compare warranty issuer, return window, outlet access, delivery time, invoice, seller identity and whether a return requires courier pickup or a visit to a branch. On a low-cost accessory, a small saving may be worth the risk; on a laptop, phone or appliance, clear warranty and service arrangements may matter more than a modest price gap.
Our guide to where to buy a laptop in Bangladesh explains how to compare store, marketplace and warranty details. For active offers, check AjkerOffer’s listing and then the merchant’s current policy; don’t infer a warranty from the platform name alone.
Red flags that deserve a second look
- The listing does not show a model number, pack size or seller name.
- The saving depends on a reference price with no clear basis.
- The code or card offer has an unclear cap, expiry or eligibility rule.
- Delivery appears only after you enter an address, and it changes the comparison.
- The seller cannot explain invoice, return or warranty handling.
- A “limited time” banner stays up without a clear campaign end date.
These are reasons to verify, not proof that a seller is acting improperly. Keep screenshots, read the written policy and ask the seller a specific question before paying.
AjkerOffer Value Check
Our price check uses the same product, same seller terms, same delivery area, same payment eligibility and final delivered total. We distinguish a confirmed checkout discount from a claimed discount, and we identify what the reader gives up to get the lower price. If an older price record is unavailable, we say so instead of calling the deal “the lowest ever.”
Frequently asked questions
How do I know if an online sale price is genuine?
Match the exact product and compare its live delivered price at other credible sellers. Check a dated history if available, and treat a crossed-out price as a seller-provided reference unless independently verified.
Should I compare MRP or checkout price?
Use the final checkout price for the item, your delivery location and your eligible payment method. MRP helps identify a reference point but does not include all costs or prove the product is cheaper elsewhere.
Are cashback and instant discounts equal?
No. An instant discount changes the amount due now. Cashback may be delayed, capped, conditional or restricted to a wallet balance.
Is the cheapest seller always the best choice?
No. Compare the price difference with warranty, returns, delivery and seller clarity. For expensive products, after-sale support can justify paying a little more.
