Buying from Facebook or Instagram Shops in Bangladesh: Checks Before You Pay
Before ordering from a social-media shop, confirm the seller, exact product, full price, delivery method, return process and payment details in writing.

Social-media shops make it easy to discover clothes, home goods and imported products, but a polished page is not the same as a verified seller. Before sending money, establish who is taking the order, what exactly will arrive, how delivery and returns work, and where you can raise a complaint. The aim is not to avoid every small business; it is to make the transaction clear enough that you can decide whether the risk fits the price.
The BBS 2024–25 ICT survey reporting found that shoppers sometimes receive goods that do not match the order or have poor quality, while delayed delivery is another reported issue. Those figures concern respondents who reported online-shopping problems, not every purchase. A simple record of the listing, conversation and payment can still make it easier to follow up if something goes wrong.
Check the seller before placing an order
Look for consistent business details across the page, website, payment instructions and parcel information. A missing address does not automatically prove a shop is dishonest, but a seller that will not identify itself or answer basic questions gives you less recourse. Search the shop name and phone number independently; read specific, recent customer feedback rather than relying only on screenshots posted by the seller.
| Check | Ask or verify | Red flag to pause on |
|---|---|---|
| Identity | Business name, contact number, physical address or established website | Seller changes names or refuses to identify the business |
| Product | Exact model, material, size, colour, condition and included items | Only stock photos; no answer about the actual item or variant |
| Price | Final price, delivery charge, advance amount and any COD fee | New fees appear only after you send a deposit |
| Delivery | Courier, estimated date, tracking and service area | No clear dispatch time or tracking process |
| Returns | What happens if item is wrong, damaged or not as described | “No return” without explaining how a faulty or incorrect order is handled |
| Payment | Business checkout, merchant account or documented receipt | Pressure to send money to a different personal number immediately |
Get the order details in writing
Before paying, ask the seller to confirm the item, quantity, price, delivery fee, destination, dispatch estimate, payment method and return process in the same message. If the product is custom-made, ask what can and cannot be changed after production begins. Save the product post, profile, chat, payment receipt and any tracking details outside the app as well.
For COD, ask what the courier allows you to inspect and what to do if the parcel is visibly damaged. COD does not automatically grant permission to open a sealed retail box before paying. For advance payment, use the seller’s official checkout when available. Do not share your mobile-wallet PIN, card security code or one-time password with a seller or courier.
Compare the social-shop offer with a store or marketplace
A direct social-media seller may offer a distinctive item or personal service, while a larger marketplace may provide a structured order page and support route. Neither channel guarantees a perfect experience. Compare the exact product and total delivered amount, then weigh the return route, payment protections, warranty and how easily you can contact the business.
If the same item appears on a known retailer’s site, compare the model and seller identity rather than assuming the photos show identical stock. AjkerOffer’s Stores directory and Deals page can help you discover participating merchants and current offers. Confirm availability and terms with the seller before relying on a listing.
If the order goes wrong
Contact the seller in writing with the order details, photos and the outcome you are requesting. Keep the delivery label and packaging. If you paid through a wallet or bank, contact that provider through its official app or helpline and ask what options are available; a payment provider may not be able to reverse a completed transaction.
DNCRP publishes a process for written consumer complaints and an online portal. Its guidance states that a complaint under the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009 must be made within 30 days of the cause arising, and its current website lists hotline 16121. Preserve proof of purchase and check the official requirements before filing.
Frequently asked questions
Is cash on delivery safer when buying from a Facebook shop?
It can reduce the risk of paying before dispatch, but it does not verify the product or guarantee that you can inspect it before payment. Confirm the seller’s process and courier rules.
Should I pay an advance for a custom product?
Only after the seller explains the advance, production timeline, cancellation terms and what happens if the delivered item differs from the agreed specification. Keep the written agreement and receipt.
What details should I save?
Save the seller profile, product post, complete chat, final price, delivery charge, payment record, tracking number and parcel label.
Can AjkerOffer guarantee a social-media seller?
No. A listing or mention is a discovery aid, not a guarantee. Verify the seller and its terms directly before ordering.
